Habey's Post it Sized Computer Does Dual HD Coding

How small a computer would you want? Just imagine, if we could really get a small computer - how would it look?

Habey has launched its new Intel Atom powered Post-It sized computer, which is very small. The new Habey SOM-6670 E6XX Tunnel Creek QSeven computer module is probably one of the world’s smallest devices.

The Habey SOM-6670 E6XX Tunnel Creek QSeven manages itself within a small modish package. The tiny computer is 70 by 70 mm with an embedded integrated E600 series processor.

The processor has the embedded features as GMA600 integrated 400MHz Power VR SGX mobile GPU, which is similar to a HD video decoder and usable in Logitech Revue and Boxee Box.

The same processor was also there in Habey’s BIS-6622. Although it has a diminishing outlook, it can display full screen dual HD movies, which proves that nothing should be judged by its outer appearance, but by its contents.

The capability level and area of a computer does not depend on its size. It may be unbelievable, but is absolutely true that the memory controller, encoder and decoder of HD video, and the CPU are all crammed into a single chip to minimize the overall size.

It can handle double 1080p videos simultaneously without any difficulty. The speed is quite high, which is 0.6GHz and varies up to 1.6GHz with very low rate power consumption, which is only 3.3 to 7 watts.

There is a good quality video encoder and decoder hardware, which supports up to 1280 x 768 external video display through LVDS and 1920 x 1080 over VGA.

Its highlighted features include a mini ITX carrier board, expandable DDR2 RAM up to 2GB and half a dozen  USB ports.

Other hardware configurations are a CAN bus, twin serial ports, 2GB Ethernet, twin Serial ATA ports, single PCIe and PCIe X1 slots of miniature size, single SD card reader and enriched input output applications with high compactness.

There is no problem with the operating system, because it supports Fedora Core 11 Linux, Windows XP SP3/7, Windows Embedded Standard 2009/7/POS Ready 2009/CE 6.0 R3, QNX Neutrino, MeeGo 1.0, and Wind River VxWorks.

The Post It sized device has embedded 3D graphics, display controllers, memory controllers and can allow double independent screens for both MPEG2 and H.264 HD encoding.

Besides, it also boasts of hardware accelerated HD decoders for OpenVG, H.264, VC-1, WMV, ES2.0, OpenGL 2.1, OpenGL ES2.0, and MPEG-2.

However, unfortunately for those who are worried about connectivity like a keyboard, mouse, and hard drive, which can make the package bulky, there is no support currently.

Habey has also stated that the modish tiny device is not likely to be available to general consumers.
