Toshiba Satellite E305 (S1990): A review

Toshiba Satellite E305 is 14 inch dynamite laptop with flourishing design and unique features. The laptop is made of metal and has a seamless touchpad instead of large mouse buttons.

It features USB 3.0, Sandy Bridge, a 4G radio, second generation wireless display technology from Intel and a Blu-ray drive.

The first impression is made striking by the inclusion of an aluminum lid along with complementary chrome accents and chassis.

The design is made to look and feel richer due to the checkered pattern etched there. There is another advantage as it is also fingerprint repellant.

However, this results in the creation of an optical illusion with the chassis seeming thicker than it actually is.

The champagne color may not seem to be aptly named, but the shade is quite cool and silvery, and matches the metal textured surfaces of the laptop.

We get a very modern effect on an overall basis. The logo is emblazoned in the lid’s corner and not on the very front and centre in its usual style.

The keys are slightly shiny and are backlit. The weight of the laptop is less than 4.95 pounds, and it is 1.2 inches thick. Taking the laptop in your hand feels quite sturdy and durable due to the aluminum body, which is rock solid.

The battery sits well within the system of the laptop and there are no bulges at the bottom, making it easy for you to slip under the arm when you are walking.

There is a USB 3.0 port along with three USB 2.0 ports. You can charge any USB-powered gadget even if the notebook is in sleep mode through the sleep and charge technology of Toshiba.

There are VGA and HDMI outputs, an Ethernet port, mic jack and memory card reader. It runs on a 2.3 GHz Core i5-2410M CPU with a 500GB 7,200RPM drive and 4GB of RAM.

The keyboard of E305 is chiclet styled and is extremely comfortable. The keyboard is chintzy and well spaced with large sized right and left Shift buttons. The keyboard requires very less time for you to warm up to it.

The panel is quite sturdy despite furious typing and the keys hardly make any sound.

The touch areas of the trackpad have been separated into right and left click zones and the location of the fingers is made obvious by the neat line there.

There is enough space for multi-touch gestures including an invisible, narrow strip at the right side to aid single-finger scrolling.

The 220-nit display uses the TruBrite technology of Toshiba and is bright for working and watching movies comfortably for long stretches, and its Dolby sound technology makes for clear sound.

The battery life runs an astounding 7 hours and ten minutes.

At $899 Toshiba Satellite E305 is quite a steal!
