Lenovo ThinkPad X1

Lenovo ThinkPad X1, the latest product manufactured by Lenovo has been long awaited. This skinny laptop is the follow up to the vaunted X series of the company.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 is a wonderful blend of rock solid construction and the iconic red nub with some slight modifications and additions, yet unseen on any other ThinkPad.

Some of the additional features include a Gorilla Glass display of 13.3 inches, a button less trackpad and fast charging battery.

Measuring in at just 16.5 mm or 0.65 inches Lenovo ThinkPad X is the slimmest ThinkPad yet.

The ThinkPad runs on an Intel Core 2011 processor and it departs from the conventional ThinkPad uniform. The touches are contemporary but the feel is that of a ThinkPad.

All the surfaces (which include the sides) are coated with a rubbery soft finish. The shape of the ThinkPad is quite tapered and the chassis is not too thin at 13.3 x 9.1 x 0.65- 0.84 inches. It weighs 3.7 pounds and is quite portable.

X1 used a RollCage construction which is the same as the other ThinkPads. It does not have the latch enclosure though, which gives the notebook a clean look.

The mute and volume controls have been removed from the keyboards and placed on the deck’s right side.

The front lip and sides have nothing - just USB 2.0 ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack and memory card slot.

The back edge is neatly lined by the USB 2.0-eSATA combo, a 20V AC port, HDMI-out, USB 3.0 port, SIM card slot kept covered for 3G connectivity (optional) and a DisplayPort.

The back side has four rubberized feet, making it comfortable for the user to type on the laptop when it is kept on some floating surface.

The webcam of the ThinkPad is 720p. The bright image quality gives accurate and vibrant colors with the ability of picking up quite a good amount of detail. The keyboard of the X1 is spill-resistant, backlit and the keys are chiclet styled.

The touchpad is button less and the keys are as usual completely comfortable for typing. The textured pad is wonderful and pressing it gives out a low-pitched and satisfying sound.

The ThinkPad runs on a 2.5GHz Intel Core i5-2520M and has 4GB RAM on board, integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics, a 320GB 7,200 RPM hard drive and Windows 7 Professional (32-bit). The laptop is an ace at juggling between web video, email, Facebook, Twitter, blogs, downloading word documents, PDFs and movies.

The integrated graphics on 3DMark06 notched up 3,726 points and enables the user to play games like Angry Birds on full-screen without problems.

The six cell battery promises a life of 5.2 hours and is pretty fast-charging.

The prices of the ThinkPad start from $1,349 and it has a warranty period of three years.
