If you want to be happy - but who doesn't want to? - the first step is to change your perception about what means "happiness".

Maybe you think that you can't be happy as you don't have enough money, enough freedom or love.

For starting by now to afford a happy life, read the next 6 myths about happiness, myths that may be exactly the reason why you aren't.

You've inherited it or not

There's a myth that we can blame everything on genetics.

False!
Yes, every feature we have has a genetic basis, but DNA is so complex, that it has both the bad and good.

So,
genetics means just a possibility.

It depends on other things, such as education, environment which genes are activated. Here we have: happy vs. unhappy, meaning you have 50-50 chances.

Though, in the end you can change everything if you acknowledge and want it.

Working for happiness means making a plan, keeping a journal, making kindness acts, without a certain purpose and always take the good part.

You can subscribe to personal developments classes, to practice meditations and when these changes will become habits, you will make less efforts and your life we'll become easier and better.

Happiness is a destination

Most of the people live their lives thinking that happiness is a destination or even an acquisition and, cheated by their own belief, they transform happiness in precise purposes:

money, marriage, kids, a bigger house etc.

For sure, such things has something to say, but they are not happiness, maybe just 10% of what defines the state of contentment, claim most of the psychologists.

Therefore, after some mathematical calculus, you can see that at least 40% of happiness means your attitude - way of thinking and acting.
"Happiness is not the finish line of an emotional race. It is a process and a resource", declared psychologist Robert Biswas-Diener.

Not to mention that when you're happier, you are healthier, more sociable, creative and available for trying new things.

If you adapt, you're happy

In fact, adaptation is one of the things standing in your happiness way.

Adjusting to the social environment, meaning aligning with their beliefs and desires would make you have the same state of mind and they're sad, depressed and unsatisfied.

Negative emotions are more powerful than the positive ones

Loss is more powerful than winning.

Maybe, but in the fight between the two, positive emotions always win the war, as we are talking about long term effects:
the negatives one are more overwhelming in the exact moment of happening as they impel you to find the problem and solve it.

On the opposite,
the positive ones are based on what you already have and, although they won't protect you from the dangerous states above some events, in time they will protect you from the consequences of negative emotions.

Happiness is only hedonism

Happiness means much more than pleasant experiences.

Sometimes, even the opposite of hedonism can be the resort for happiness, such as helping voluntarily other people.

A single lucky number can bring you all happiness

If you expect the magic elixir or the wonder that will change your whole life, you will be for sure disappointed.

There is a diversity of aspects that improve your happiness: activities that you like(which give you the feeling of gratitude, connection, forgiveness, optimism),which are relevant for soul and mind.

Happiness is not a singular fact.

To conclude, before happiness you need to have will!

And after you have it, you have to maintain it, to act according to it - because from here it starts the sense of everything and a happy life is a life with a sense.
