Factors That Contribute in Making Pilates Popular

Although the word ‘Pilates’ looks more or less like ‘pirates’, its actual pronunciation is ‘puh-lah-teez’. In order to explain what Pilates is, we have to go back to the early 1900s, when this exercise was introduced by Joseph Pilates. He was never hardy and suffered from terrible health.

His physical condition provoked him in doing something that would benefit himself as well as others who had similar problems.

Finally, he developed the exercise regime called Pilates, incorporating Zen philosophy, yoga, and exercises taken from the ancient civilizations of Rome and Greece.

Pilates was in Germany during the Second World War. Taking advantage of his position as a captive, he taught this method of exercise to other prisoners as well, thereby helping them to develop strength and build immunity against dangerous ailments.

While he was still in prison, he developed a few other techniques as well that are to be done on mats. He also started developing new Pilates equipment, using bed strings and a few other easily available supplies.

The equipment made during this period helped in building resistance in the body, thereby strengthening a person’s muscles. Born in a German prison, this form of exercising is nowadays gaining huge popularity.

The modern version of Pilates is a chain of exercises that helps in improving strength as well as flexibility. Furthermore, anyone, regardless of age, can practice this form of exercise. However, if you are suffering of any health issue, you can consult your doctor before beginning with these exercises.

Pilates is very popular among dancers:

Pilates is very popular among dancers, especially ballerinas as this exercise helps in making you more flexible. Thus, it is obvious that dancers who need to be very agile would love Pilates! Following a Pilates regimen is said to prevent injuries as well.

This is another reason behind this preference of Pilates, as dancers tend to be extremely prone to injuries. Pilates is also believed to make you stronger physically as well as mentally as it is beneficial in overcoming stress and helps you get rid of anxiety.

Chiropractors also prefer this form of exercising as it helps in strengthening spine and back.

It is said that if you exercise consistently, Pilates would increase the mobility of your joints, also ensure a flat stomach, and thinner thighs and waist, and also improve blood circulation.

Pilates workouts are available in different varieties, making them fit to be used by all, irrespective of age and other physical problems.

Since a number of options are available in a Pilates workout, it is essential to have knowledge about these exercises.

Regardless of whether you would like to make Pilates your hobby or a career option, it would prove to be a great choice.

Powerhouse Pilates:

Powerhouse Pilates is a type of exercise that is instrumental in providing a basic fitness approach. Founded by Christine Romani Ruby and Marci Clark, this exercise was originally developed to make Pilates available for fitness experts.

Peak Pilates:

This is another form of Pilates that uses a completely different approach, preaching ways to teach rather than only learning those things that are to be taught!

The certification program of Peak Pilates concentrates on professional development as well as a deep understanding of a systematic and integrated approach to Pilates.

This knowledge is very important, as it provides confidence and a solid foundation - the two basic necessities behind becoming a Pilates instructor.

Pilates is not stressful to our body, as it causes very little bounce to the body. This makes Pilates attractive to people recuperating from an injury or physical problem.

Pilates is also advised for elderly people or if you are overweight, as it increases the blood circulation and also help in weight reduction. If you are suffering from arthritis, you can practice it in order to overcome stiffness.
