Healthy Diet for School Children

School going students often end up having junk food items that are easily available in the school canteen. Therefore, it is necessary for you to ensure that your child does not end up inculcating unhealthy eating habits.

There are several nutritious food items that you can pack in your child’s lunch box. These items taste good as well and will ensure that your child’s health is not hampered.




Diet for School:


Snacks: Children are fond of snacks. While it provides nutrients to them, it is also serves as fun food for them. You can pack some natural snack items in the kid’s lunch box. This includes those snacks that are made from fruits, cereal grains, vegetables and nuts.

Some of the snack items that you can consider are:

1. Cheese and Avocado Sandwich:

This is a tasty snack that can keep your child’s body fit. Avocado supplies the body with necessary vitamin C and E, in addition to potassium and fiber. Cheese provides the body with protein. A must-have food for good growth of children.

2. Banana Chips (Dried):

It will a great idea to pack dried chips made from banana in your child’s tiffin box. They are fried using coconut oil and are coated with honey, which only makes the children yearn for more snacks.

Bananas contain high level of Vitamin A and Vitamin C aside to potassium. Banana chips can also be added to muesli, which together supplies carbohydrates to your body and supplies the body with energy.

3. Cheese and Crackers:

Cheese contain calcium which can help your child build stronger muscles. Crackers, on the other hand, are available in whole wheat, and provide fiber that is necessary for the growth of the body.

4. Salad Made of Fruit:

Preparing a food salad for your child isn’t a bad idea at all. You can add some of the fruits that your child is really fond of and will eat happily.

Include mango, grapes, apple and strawberries. They are highly nutritious and can supply the body with necessary vitamins and fiber.

5. Hummus:

Hummus is extracted from dried garlic, chickpeas and tahini. It can easily be enjoyed with pita bread. These supply iron and fiber to the human body; this food is high in fiber and iron.

In addition to this, you can teach your child to avoid canteen food. This is because most of the food items that are served in the canteen are not nutritious at all.

They contain fat and carbohydrates that can lead to weight gain, especially in the case of an obese child.

Some useful tips that you can give your child include:

1. Avoid eating large meals:

Tell your children that they should not have large meals at the school canteen. It is important that they have small portions throughout the day.

Many times, children end up having fast food items, fried products and junk food since the canteen allows only limited meals in a week.

2. Breakfast is a must:

Explain the benefits of breakfast to your child and encourage them to have a healthy breakfast while they are at school.

Ask them to make healthy choices and include those food items that are rich in protein, carbs and have fiber.

3. Select Beverages carefully:



The school canteen keeps sugar based soft drinks with them. This is not good for your child. Therefore, you can explain to your child that they need to avoid such drinks and that they consist of calories which can lead to weight gain.

Rather, encourage them to have milk, fruit juice and
water.
