The process of cheek augmentation surgery

1. The administration of anesthesia

During the procedure of surgery, medications are given to the patient so that the comfort of the patient is not compromised with.

Anesthesia in case of cheek augmentation surgery could be either a general one or a mix of intravenous sedation and local anesthesia. The surgeon will be the best one to make the selection simple and effective.

2. Incision is made

In most cases the inside of the mouth is the best place to make the incision. However, incision on a lower eyelid may also be made, especially if the patient is undergoing lower eyelift as well.

In fact in case of the performance of face lift or a brow lift the incisions made during those procedures can be used for the insertion of the cheek implants.

3. Insertion of cheek implant and positioning it under the skin

After the making of the incisions, insertions of cheek implants are done and they are positioned in an exact manner so that the most naturally aesthetic and best result is attained.

You may have to sit up on the operation table so that your surgeon can check out and examine the appearance to fix the implant in its proper place. It helps in ensuring good symmetry and placement.

4. Fixing the implant in place

A solid implant can be secured by either attaching it to the bone or soft tissues with screws or sutures, or a close fitting tissue pocket is created around the implant, this helps in keeping the hold of the implant in the desired position.

The implants which are porous in nature can be secured in place through a process in which the natural tissues of the patient grows inside the implants’ pores.

5. Closing the incisions

Sutures are used to close the incisions. In majority of the cases there is no need for dressings or bandages as some sutures especially the ones inside the mouth will dissolve all by themselves after some weeks. Some others may be needed to be removed professionally by the doctor after a few days.

6. Instructions for post-op care

After the completion of the surgery, the patient will have to be taken to recovery area. There the patient will be fully monitored at all times by the surgical staff.

In most general cases the performance of chin augmentation surgery is carried on the basis of outpatient.

However, in some cases, there may arise the need for overnight stay at the hospital. After the surgical process the best thing to do is if someone stays for the at least a day with you.

In case the placement of the incisions is in the mouth, the patient will be restricted and will have to go on a soft diet after the surgery for some days.

There will also be the need for rinsing out the mouth every time following lunch, dinner or eat anything so that the sutures are kept clean.

In case the placement of the incision is through the eyelid of the patient, there would be detailed instructions on resting the eyes of the patient and using some lubricants so that there is no dryness during the healing process so that the healing process does not suffer any setback.
