DIFFERENT TYPES OF CELLULITE TREATMENTS

Different types of Cellulite treatments

It is said that on an average, 85-98% of post-pubescent females are affected by cellulite. But the concept of cellulite is still not understood by most people. Simply because of this reason many people think that the quick and easy solutions promised by the marketing wizards are true.

There are many options to improve and treat the appearance of cellulite when exercise and diet cannot offer the perfect solution. However, a majority of the solutions are no good except that they are expensive.

The treatments that may help cellulite:

Smart lipo (laser lipolysis) - liposuction traditionally reduces the localized fat deposits. Generally, it is assumed that this can reduce the cellulite appearance. However, general liposuction can make the cellulite appearance even worse, as it creates skin depressions and damages the connective tissues.

But the proponents of smart lipo (which is laser assisted) can tighten the skin and improve the cellulite appearance. However, this treatment should be carefully approached as it is a new concept and no studies of long term effects are available illustrating its effectiveness or safety.

Acoustic wave therapy - in this treatment, there is the external application of acoustic pressure waves so that the connecting tissue which results in skin dimpling can be broken up.

It is like the extracorporeal shock wave therapy that is used to treat ailments like kidney stones and others. There is no available long term data as it is a new procedure, but it seems to be quite promising.

Cellulite subcision surgery – This surgery involves the cutting of the downward pulling connective tissue bands by a cutting stool (of ‘v’ shape). It has shown long term results which is positive in nature. However, it is an invasive option and is not available widely.

It is ineffective in certain cases or body parts and has limited clinical research as well. It is marketed under Rejuveskin.

Belt lipectomy or mower body lift – This treatment involves removal of excess skin, the lifting of the remaining skin, and securing it in some position so that the skin of the thighs, buttocks and abdomen is lifted, tightened and smoothed.

This does not rid one of cellulite, but the smoothness reduces bad appearance significantly. It is the most invasive surgical option, thus increasing the risk factors as well as scarring.

Fat injections or autologous fat transfer or fat grafting – This treatment involves the injection of fat into depressed areas so that the skin looks smooth. It is somewhat effective but it is not a permanent solution.
Some temporary treatments:

Endermologie – In this treatment, a mechanical suction-and-roller assisted massage device is employed. Breaking up of stubborn fat deposits, water retention and stretching of contracted connective tissue bands are massaged away by this device.

In fact, the massage can stimulate fibroblast and produce extra collagen which can thicken and strengthen the epidermis and dermis. There have been positive results from this treatment according to patients.

Velasmooth - This treatment uses a device, incorporating Endermologie-style roller massage as well as suction. It also has some added radiofrequency energy and infrared light technologies.

It claims that the patient can get smooth and tight skin, improved circulation, body contouring and relief from muscle pains and aches through a series of sessions.

Unproven

There are many companies who claim to solve your cellulite agony but they are nothing but false claims with no direct proof of their working.
