Getting your Body Inked? Know about the Risks

Tattoos look simply great. However, it is also true that many serious health issues are involved with it. It is important to take these very seriously. One of the biggest problems with getting a tattoo done is that people regret it later in their life. They either want to remove it or hide it. 

However, the solution for this problem is to reach to a tattoo artist only once you are determined to stay committed to it. In case, you have just 1 per cent doubt in your mind, DO NOT GET INKED!


Knowing about the risks is very important prior to making a decision. Understand that there are several risks in this process. Here are some of the most serious ones that you need to consider:

* Risk 1: Infection: Infection is a very common problem with those who tattoo their body. This basically occurs due to unsterile needles and equipments. These needles can easily transmit transferable or infectious diseases including hepatitis and serious skin infections.

The staphylococcus aureus bacteria are known to be the main culprit in spreading the disease. If you have received your tattoo from a facility that is not regulated by your state or one that uses unsterile equipment and reusable ink, you can catch serious infections.

* Risk 2: Removal: It is true that modern technology is ultra advanced. However, there is still no technique available that reduces pain during removal of tattoo. The process will require multiple treatments and is very expensive. There is no technique that will remove your tattoo completely without scarring.

* Risk 3: Allergies: This is a primary problem faced by tattoo lovers. This is usually due to the usage of certain shades of inks used on the body. These are banned by the FDA. The problem may be faced by anyone. There have also been cases where people have suffered from allergies from tattoo they have been sporting for years.

* Risk 4: Toxins: there are certain ink pigments that carry harmful heavy metals and other toxins. These might create a problem for you. Hence, it would be wise to have a discussion with your tattoo artist for the same.

* Risk 5: Formation of Keloid: In case you are vulnerable to developing keloids, then you are definitely at higher risk of developing keloid from a tattoo. Keloids are actually scars that grow beyond usual boundaries. Keloids can occur on bodies at any time. These can also cause injury to your skin or traumatize it. Keloids are quite common during the process of tattoo removal.

* Risk 6: Granulomas:
These are actually nodules formed around material the body understands as foreign. These can also result from tattoo pigment.

* Risk 7: MRI related complications: There have been many reports for people with certain tattoos suffering from a burning sensation or swelling during an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging).

The key to enjoy happy experience with your tattoo is to make sure that you get it done from reputed facility and take adequate precautions to keep it away from infections. Happy tattooing!
