HAIR LOSS

Do you know that we shed about 100 or 125 hairs every day? It might be shocking, but it is true. There are some portions of hair that fall because of their natural growth cycle. But some people face hair fall issues more than others. The most common cause of hair loss is androgenetic alopecia. This takes place as a normal part of the aging process.

Androgenetic Alopecia is often passed on through heredity.
This disease is called by the name Male Pattern Baldness in men.

The main characteristics of this are baldness on top of the head and a thinning hair line.
Women obviously don’t go bald entirely even with severe hair loss.

The hair loss gets spreaded evenly over the entire scalp.

Hormones play very crucial role in Androgenetic Alopecia.
Testosterone is produced both by men and women.

It converts into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) with the help of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase. DHT shrivel the hair follicles causing the scalp membrane to thicken.

It will then become inflexible and the blood flow gets restricted. Atrophy occurs in the hair follicles. Since it is men who produce more testosterone, hair loss is experienced more by men than women.

Other than androgenetic alopecia, there are several other causes of hair loss.
Medical conditions like fungal infections, ringworm and hypothyroidism are potential causes of hair loss.

There are some medications like gout medication, blood thinner, pills to control birth and overdose of vitamin A which can lead to an abnormal amount of hair loss.

Radiation, chemotherapy, crash diet and abrupt hormonal changes can cause hair loss as well.

Pregnancy or surgery can also lead to hair loss.
Emotional stress plays an important role in causing hair loss.

Often, it happens that hair fall goes unnoticed for three to four months after the event has taken place. Due to stress, a large number of hair follicles go into resting phase and do not sprout any new hair.

That’s why hair growth slows down.

A lot of damage is caused to hair by the use of different styling tools.
People nowadays use many hair styling products like gel, mousse, rollers, curling irons, straightening irons, etc to create exciting looks with their hair.

While they really help in your process of experimenting with your hair, these artificial products can cause potential harm to your hair if you are not careful in using them.

Wearing pigtails or cornrows cause a tremendous pull on the hair.
The scalp can get scarred because of this, thus leading to permanent loss of hair.

Chemicals and hot oils that are used on hair can also cause soreness of the hair follicles, leading to a scarred scalp and therefore, hair loss.

Hair loss among women is caused due to a variety of reasons like telogen effluvium, postpartum alopecia, menopause, polycystic ovarian disease, scalp infection, and other autoimmune disorders.

Often, hair loss can happen as an early sign of a more grave disorder like diabetes or lupus.

Now that you have discovered the truth of hair loss, you can take the following steps to reduce it to some extent.

- Start using gentle shampoo and conditioner.

- Massage rosemary oil and olive oil on your scalp to stimulate the growth of hair follicles. Make use of different herbal remedies in order to check hair loss.

 - If your hair loss is getting out of hand, consult a doctor immediately to check whether the cause is something more serious or not.
