What are the Planetary hours

It is more likely that the ancient Egyptians were the first to divide the time during the day (between Sunrise and Sunset) into 12 equal parts and then did the same on the night between the Sunset and next Sunrise. These first "astrologers" correlated each of these parts of the day with the seven known celestial bodies and their movements. Through observation, they managed to organize a model based on the apparent speed of these bodies, namely Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury, and the Moon.

They repeated this sequence of these seven planets at three times during the day, adding as well the next three planets to complete the 24 hours. This distribution was named the "Planetary Hours."

Additionally, we report that astrologers—astronomer Ptolemy, astrologer Dorotheos Sindonios, and later the astrologer William Lilly—used in wide scale the "Planetary Hours."

For why the sequence of planetary hours for each day depends on the day, we examine and base it mainly on the names of the days, which are taken from the planets. For example: Monday, called in Latin Dies Lunae (Moon Day), Tuesday/Dies Martis (Day of Mars), Wednesday/Dies Mercuri (Mercury's Day), Thursday/Dies Jovis (Jupiter Day), Friday/Dies Veneris (Day of Venus), Saturday/Dies Saturni (Saturn Day), and Sunday/Dies Solis (Sun Day). So, each day begins at sunrise with the Planetary Hour corresponding to the planet that “borrows” the name, e.g., on Monday the first Planetary Hour is that of the Moon.

Of course, these 24 points of the day range in length from day to day and from week to week, and are called "Hours," although they rarely last for 60 minutes.

Today, with the help of computers, we can identify the actual duration of a “Planetary Hour.” The question is why something like that can be useful to us. The basis for the use of “Planetary Hours” lays in the nature of each of the planets associated with this specific Hour.

A useful tip in relation to the use of “Planetary Hours” is to combine everyday aspects of all planets during the day, as shown at the top right of the page. By the way, we clarify that the “Planetary Hours” that we mention for each day on the left part of the page is calculated for EST local time, including summer time. This means that you only have to look at your watch.

Let us give an example: If you plan to make a major purchase (e.g. a car), where the hours of Mercury or Jupiter are suitable, but that day these two planets are in discordant aspect to each other or to some planets (especially Mars or Saturn), it is preferable to avoid the purchase on this specific day, but to do it the next day when no longer such an aspect exists.

A good way to receive more benefits from the properties of “Planetary Hours” is to note not only the moves that you make at a specific time, but also the proposals, phones calls, appointments, etc., from others in order to find directly—and perhaps surprisingly!—their intentions and to make your own conclusions about the usefulness of the daily chart of “Planetary Hours.”

Consider the nature of each and its relation to your matters of concern, and evaluate the usefulness of each one of the “Planetary Hours:”

Planetary hour of Saturn

Anyone who knows the restrictive nature and delays caused by Saturn would not start a trip on a Saturn Hour, since delays and setbacks would follow for the entire journey! Work started in Saturn’s Hour is accompanied by the characteristics of this planet. This Hour, however, is by its nature curious, since a setback may prove beneficial in the end. If you start a construction site in Saturn Hour, it will appear that its completion has no end!

In the case of an architect friend who started building in a Saturn Hour, which coincidentally was in retrograde, the building was finished with a 28 months delay. The owner found him guilty in court and he struggled to sell the apartments. He is still trying to find the cause of all these mishaps. But in the case of another friend who deals with auctions and buying and selling real estate, things are completely different. All the times he signed contracts for the selling or purchasing of property were at Saturn Hour (Saturn is associated with real estate), and he has observed that customers rarely change their minds (the reliable nature of Saturn) and their decisions were stable over time.

Of course, apart from the relating issues, this Hour is not suitable for signing any other type of contracts.

The Saturn Hour is suitable for: Being isolated in order to find your inner balance, to start things that you want to have duration (especially in business matters) or start a job with long-term results and prospects, to plan activities, to take precautionary measures and security (locks, alarms), to give sworn evidence, to collect money (old debts).

Also, to sell property (land, parcels), to contact real estate agents, farmers, or call your plumber, to maintain furniture or artwork, visit monasteries and archaeological sites, get in contact with elderly people or consult people who have great experience on the subject of your concern, get rid of something or someone and stop problematic relationships!

The Saturn Hour is not suitable for: Entry of legal battles, marriage and sex issues, to purchase household and electronic appliances (especially Saturday, which is the day of Saturn), to move or change the aesthetics of the area you live or work.

Planetary hour of Jupiter

The nature of Jupiter is expansive, optimistic, philanthropic, and benevolent. Each job that starts at Jupiter Hour will continue into this expansive and optimistic prospect. Book travel or start your trip on Jupiter Hour, and you will have more comfort on the way and more pleasure than you expect.

Jupiter Hour is also a guide for financial success. A good idea is to program yourself to wake up (when possible) on Jupiter Hour so you can enjoy the positive side of the nature of this planet all day!

Jupiter Hour is suitable for: Organizing and starting a long trip or an important seminar, to register for school, to start teaching a literary work, to make a stock investment or foreign investment and mutual funds, as well as opening an account in the bank. Contacts with service managers, lawyers, journalists, and individuals associated with charitable causes are preferable.

Jupiter Hour is also suitable for starting an energetic diet to gain weight, getting advice from a lawyer, buying valuable stones, to get in contact with religious agents to participate in religious ceremonies or to confess, and to establish or to settle relations with your relatives by marriage (especially with your in-laws).

Also, to deal with horse riding if you are interested, to contact embassies or consulates, to get a passport, making donations or other charitable activities, to meet with representatives of the law, customs, or to pick up a new means of transport.

Jupiter Hour is inappropriate for: To start a diet, to collect information, for tasks that require detail and cleaning up, and to lend money or items.

Planetary hour of Mars

The nature of the planet Mars (hasty, passionate, energetic) describes the hour of Mars. Do not call people who you suspect may quarrel with you, unless something like that benefits you or you want to risk it. Better to wait for the next “Planetary Hour” or use the previous one, that of Jupiter. If you can, avoid traveling on Mars Hour. Look for yourself to see how much more aggressive everyone is driving at this time or how many accidents occur. Notice as well how much more energetic (or more quarrelsome) you become during the day when you wake up in the morning on Mars Hour!

Mars Hour is right for: Getting in touch with soldiers, technicians, engineers, crews, mechanics, dental technicians, physiotherapists, investigators, machinery dealers, to participate in competitive sports, to build a fireplace, new businesses, for purchases of arms and sharp objects that have everyday use, to achieve a goal through the surprise of others, or to purchase shares in connection with metals (especially iron). Also, for medical examinations of blood, blood donation, and minor surgeries, but not major operations.

Mars Hour is unsuitable for: Driving, work of cosmetics, love affairs (except sex), surgery, tooth extraction, removal of corns, moles, preoccupation with weapons or sharp objects, meetings with competitors, to settle misunderstandings or start litigation (lawsuits), clarifying matters, mediation efforts, receiving long-term loans, weddings, and general matters that require stability.

Planetary hour of Sun

The benign nature of the Sun makes the Sun Hour good and appropriate for most activities and for most people. Start a social event (for example, a party) if possible at this hour (and whoever comes in delayed will show up in the next hour, that of Venus, who is also a good time!) If you feel uncertain about the actions of another person, e.g. someone who will not call you back, do the initial phone call in Sun Hour.

In this case, you are more likely to receive a call (especially in the hours of the Sun, Venus, Mercury, or Moon) and even a beneficial effect!

Sun Hour is suitable for: Taking part in events for a self-project, as well as to buy things that will improve your image. To see people who have an office and ask for an favor, ask for promotion, visit your father, to buy things you think to resell, opening businesses such as nightclubs, jewellery stores, to get involved with your children, to flirt and have fun, to formalize a relationship with an engagement (not marriage), to play in the theater, to deal with a creative hobby or do sports, and mainly to buy gold jewellery and luxury items. Also, for medical examinations related to heart and waist.

Sun Hour is unsuitable for: Moving, partnerships, marriage, the purchase of electrical appliances and computers.

Planetary hour of Venus

Venus is the planet of love, beauty, serenity, harmony, and generally those issues related to the above. Everything can go well with Venus Hour, unless there is a Venus retrograde transit that is receiving negative aspects. If there is, then let's be careful and do not rely on her favorable side. These hours will include all the difficult parts.

Venus Hour is convenient for: Dealing with emotional issues, flirting, closing an agreement for cooperation or marriage, starting the honeymoon, buying clothes, cosmetics and perfumes, learning about fashion, visiting your seamstress, dealing with artistic interests, exhibiting or purchasing artwork, buying flowers or getting occupied with the flowers in your garden, decorating your space, entertaining, dealing with cultural issues, performing your wedding or making a marriage proposal, interfering with your finances or making public relations and social visits, and consulting your dietician.

The Venus Hours are very good times for romantic meetings, to ask for favors, to start touring, to implement a creative or artistic project or hobby (such as painting, gardening, decorative work, etc.), to listen to music, to dance, to exchange gifts, to celebrate an anniversary, and for appointments at hair salons or beauty salons to take care of your personal appearance, such as to change your hair color. Also, for medical examinations related to a kidney, thyroid, skin problems, and allergies.

Venus Hour is inconvenient for: Studies in technical services, construction, negotiations with competitors, hard and strenuous work, for violent sports, shopping for tools.

Planetary hour of Mercury

Mercury is the planet of communication, so you can start on any communication, such as correspondence, writing, short trips and excursions, teaching, contact with children, as well as making important phone calls. This changes if the transit Mercury is in retrograde or is receiving negative aspects. The positive attributes of Mercury are adapted accordingly, especially in the case of retrograde motion, and then the above activities are considered extremely hazardous on Mercury Hour.

Mercury Hour is appropriate for: Intellectual work, making negotiations with traders and industrialists, advertisers, carriers, travel agents and public relations, sending letters, telegrams, faxes or making important phone calls, to present a speech, to convince someone with your arguments, ordering transportation, to buy books, glasses, stationery, a computer (and especially on days that have a good aspect with Uranus), and programs for computers, buying a radio, TV, speakers, microphones and other audio-visual means, and to buy mobile phones.

Also, to have excursions, to arrange for transportation of goods, advertising your products, developing better relationships with neighbors or your siblings, closing deals, to read literature, publishing a book, or turning in a written work or study.

Also, to deal with translations, to put in an advert, to write music cassettes, etc., to get in touch with writers, journalists, publishers, booksellers, accountants, mathematicians, printers, teachers, postmen, to request transfer, to move, to book tickets to travel.

The Mercury Hours are appropriate for: Ophthalmic medical tests, as well as getting examined at otolaryngologist, pulmonary, and pathologist centers for intestinal problems.

Mercury Hour is inappropriate for: Decisions on important issues, legal issues, for reconstruction, to decide on marriage, and serious love affairs.

Planetary hour of Moon

Before using the Moon Hour, check whether there is a Void of Course Mon and receiving negative aspects. If there is no such case and the moon is well placed, its positive features will be presented by the Hours of the Moon.

The Moon Hour, then, is suitable for contact with the public, matters of public interest, and for dealing with women or your mother. Topics of the house and family matters are within the realm of influence of the moon, as well.

Moon Hour is suitable for: Contact with the public and relationships with the female sex, dealing with domestic issues, opening investigations, oracular occupations, family gatherings, dealing with relatives, hotels and hotel workers, seamen, shipping firms, supply or trade of household goods and food products, glassware, silverware, pearl, swimming, or to start a sea voyage.

Also, for gynaecological examinations or tests of the stomach.

Moon Hour is unsuitable for: Trading with people of power (bosses, managers), decisions that need stability and a lasting influence, to “stamp your feet,” to start a love story.
