Helping Super-Competitive Children Relax

A competitive child will definitely make you proud. This child will work really hard to stay ahead of everything in life. Whether it is studies, attending quizzes or sports, your child will definitely make you feel proud.

This is something that every parent would pray hard for their child. A competitive child is a blessing in disguise.

However what would you say if your child is super competitive? Would you still have no problems? This is not a problem. However it will definitely not take much time for a serious problem to crop up.

Super competitive children live under constant pressure. Interestingly this pressure is not created by their parents, peers or teachers.

It is their own overactive competitive spirit that makes them feel a pressure to stay ahead all the time. They cannot take failure in their stride.

They will over work and over train themselves to reach a goal. This may seem to be really exciting for you but a child’s body and mind has not been designed in a fashion to accept and ideal with such pressures. The side effects may be harsh. Here are some problems you super competitive child may face.

* The child lives under immense pressure to prove his worth
* He will over work to achieve specific goals
* Get in to serious depression sometimes
* Become incapable of handling failure
* Suicidal thoughts due to failure
* Feel embarrassed after a failure
* Ruin their health by overtraining
* No social life of friends
* Lack of entertainment
* Lesser physical activity
* Unable to develop emotional bond
* Vulnerable to feeling dejection

If you do not want your child to face any of these problems and lead a tension free, healthy lifestyle, it is important to help your super competitive child relax.

A super-competitive child definitely needs your help. The best thing to do is to express your love and affection to the child freely and assure them that they do not require over doing things or hurting themselves to seek your attention.

Make your child understand that it is important to lose sometimes. Narrate them stories of super heroes who have risen and attained fame after failure.

They will get inspired. Tell them “failure is a step to success”. You may even tell instances form your life to help the child understand how life is.

Let them join some fun activities such as dance classes, music etc. This will help them release stress and enjoy life. Encourage your child to make friends.

Take keen interest in his friends, activities, favorite games and likes and dislikes. This will help you develop a strong bond with the child.

Know when your child is upset and why. Try doing things that will make your child feel happy and better. Feed him with healthy, nutritious food.

A healthy child will have a healthy mind. Ask your child to stop and relax when you feel it is necessary. Help your child relax and feel easy.
