Veganism: The new cult among vegetarian dietary plans

Most of the people following a vegetarian diet are usually lacto vegetarians. There are a very few people following the cult of veganism across the world.

People are not yet significantly conscious about the cruelty involved with animals in making food products or even clothes.

Although a significant number of campaigns have been introduced to stop cruelty on animals, people needs to be educated more in order to bring a control on the cruelty imposed on animals.

What is Veganism?

Since most of us are not very familiar with the word veganism, the first question that comes to mind is “What is Veganism?” Veganism is defined as the lifestyle or philosophy where people tend to give up the use of animals from dietary and even other uses like using animal sources for clothes. The people who adhere to this particular cult are referred to as vegans.

Vegans firmly promise not to consume or make use of animal products in their day-to-day life. The cause behind people’s turning into vegans can be traced to health or ethical commitments, an eye on the welfare and health of animals, religious concern, and last but not the least, environmental concern.

If the vegan diet is planned properly, that is if you can consume a healthy vegan diet, it is possible to provide your body with all the nutrients, minerals and vitamins essential for its upkeep.

Products avoided by vegans

Since any product derived of an animal is termed as an animal product, people following the cult of veganism must avoid all the products that are derived of an animal.

Some animal products that must be avoided by the followers of veganism include products like poultry, eggs, honey, leather, silk, meat, seafood, all types of dairy product, fur, etc.

Dietary plan followed by the followers of veganism

Followers of veganism mostly consume food like tofu, seitan and tempeh in their dietary habit. Certain products make use of animal products just as a part of tradition without even considering its consequences. Actually, people have gotten used to using such products.

Vegans have found a suitable plant substitute for all these products. For example, milk is an animal product.

The vegans can never consume this, as this is an animal product. Vegans have substituted cow’s milk with soymilk, almond milk, plant milk, or even grain milk.

Similarly, vegans have also substituted eggs with products like starch based substitutes or applesauce.

Vegans are also making use of products that have been referred to as artificial meat products like soy or gluten. Imitation burgers, sausages, ground beef, as well as chicken nuggets are very popular among the vegans.

Mostly, plant based foods like grain, vegetable, nuts, beans and fruits find a significant place among the followers of veganism.

Although it may seem very difficult for a person with regular choices to understand what exactly a vegan diet is and how can they survive only on salads!

Do not panic on this issue, as they do not survive only on salads, but have a wide choice of a great variety of dishes like Italian pasta, Chinese stir-fries and even a sumptuous meal consisting of raw vegetable salad!

Conclusion

Veganism, although a more recent philosophy, has gained wide popularity among people probably due to its decent as well as novel way of protesting against the cruelty that animals are subjected to in their daily life.
