Retro Hairstyles Making a Comeback

Hair fashion, like all the other fashion in this world, is also ever-changing. You can never be certain what the next hit fashion trend will be. This is even more true for hair. But as we know “history repeats itself”, well, so do hair styles. You have probably heard the saying - what has gone around will come around. This is true for 70’s hair styles as well.

Every hair style that was a hit in the seventies is now returning with a bang. The hair styles then were very flashy and suit today’s teens perfectly. Let’s first throw some light on different types of hair styles that rocked the stage in the seventies.

Shag Hairstyle

It was made popular by Bobby Sherman and David Bowie, and the fashionable bands of that time. The Shag haircut was the unanimous winner in the 70s. It has survived all through the last 30 years, and has altered itself to create some of the most popular hair styles like the bob, inverted bob, layered bob, and even the mullett.

Straight and Long Hair

In order to make the layers of the hair most distinctly visible, the hair need to be straight and long. That’s why long and straight hair was the most predominant hair style during that time. It was during the seventies when stylists thought it appropriate to experiment with curlers, blow dryers and flat irons.

Big Curls – As the stylists started using different styling tools, big curls came into being. Long big curly hair became the most common look as every women aging from twelve to forty wanted to try that look. Hair dryers, round brushes and curlers sold off as fast as never before.

The Wedge

Dorothy Hamill, the Olympic champion skater, brought in the look of the celebrated wedge cut which became so famous. The hair style enfolded the face and was inverted in the back. Incorporating slight modifications, this style continues to this day.

So, it can be said that seventies hair styles have definitely made a comeback to the current generation of men and women. Admittedly, slight alterations have been brought in, like layered hair has become more sophisticated, the shag cut has been toned-down a bit, and big curls have been merged with chic styles and cuts with the help of different hair products and hair styling tools.

It would be very unfair to think retro styles look good only on women. Men do not want to lag behind, and are ready to try great masculine retro styles of the fifties, sixties, seventies and so on. The Curly cut is one of the hot picks from the seventies.

This can easily be done with the aid of an electric hair styler. It looks absolutely excellent on people that have a good volume of thick hair. Styling the hair in this way by cropping the hair partially can also give you a great look.

You can also keep combing your hair if you don’t want to do any cropping. If you don’t want to go into all this hassle, then you can simply wear the carefree long hairstyle.

It will give a boost to your lighthearted attitude. You can also try out the messy hair look. Trim your long locks on the sides and keep a half-long length in the middle. There is no other style better than this for today’s men who like to stay casual and relaxed.

Retro hair styles are great to try out for alumni parties for schools or colleges.
