Different Methods of Hair Removal

Having too much body hair is a big issue both for men and women. That’s why more and more people are opting for different hair removal procedures.

There are various reasons for which people want their hair to be removed like cosmetic reasons, medical reasons, etc.

For example, many women suffering from hormonal imbalances sprout hair at unwanted places like facial hair.

Again, before surgical operations, a patient’s hair is removed to lessen the chances of infection. There are also cultural and social reasons for hair removal.

Like, when you are going to your work place, you probably need to be clean shaven. Or when you are going on a date, you may want to flaunt your stubble. Different religious rites and rituals also can compel you to remove hair.

Hair removal is basically of two types – temporary hair removal and permanent hair removal. People make use of different common as well as uncommon hair removal methods to get rid of unwanted hair from different parts of the body like their face, chest, leg, back and genital or pubic areas.

Shaving

It is a temporary and inexpensive method of hair removal. But the problem faced by many people is that hair starts to regrow the very next day. Different varieties of razors are available, ranging from plastic made single blade razors costing a quarter to a good quality electric razor priced $50 or higher.

Plucking

Tweezing or plucking the hair is another commonly used method. This method takes time to finish as you can pluck only one hair at a time.

This method can be used for plucking one or two extra hair in the eyebrows. Though the method can hurt especially near the eyes and can cause irritation to some extent; it is a very inexpensive method, because one needs to invest only $2 to get a pair of tweezers.

Waxing

In order to remove hair from extensive areas, many people use hot wax. After applying wax to the skin, it is covered with a cloth or paper. As soon as the wax cools down, the paper is pulled away from the skin, along with the hair.

This method is undoubtedly fast, but it is also painful. By waxing, the topmost layer of the skin gets removed, causing redness and rashes. Once you get habituated to this method, you will see this method is very easy and quick to use. Depending on the body part that you want to get waxed, you will incur costs ranging from $20 to $150.

Sugar Waxing

It is quite similar to usual waxing, except that the wax is a sticky sugary one. This method is cheaper.

Bleaching

Instead of removing the hair, some women choose to lighten their hair. Women having a lot of facial hair usually opt for this method. Bleaching is pain free, and in most cases, does not have side effects. But it is better to test it by applying the bleach on a small area just in case it causes irritation.

Threading

It is done using cotton thread. The hair is caught by the thread and then it is pulled out. This method is similar to plucking, except for the fact that multiple hair can be pulled out at once.

Laser Hair Removal

It is a permanent method in which laser light is pointed to a small patch of skin and the follicle is damaged to avoid future growth of hair.
